Choosing between the SAT & ACT

Choosing between the SAT and ACT can be tricky, as each test has a slightly different focus and format. To select the best test for your needs, practice tests for both the SAT and ACT are available. After completing each test, a review of your results will be used to determine which exam best aligns with your strengths and college goals.

Recently, the SAT exam underwent some changes, and the ACT has some expected changes for 2025 as well. Below is a summary of characteristics to consider:

SAT:

Sections: 2 Reading and Writing modules, 2 Math modules (no essay)
Timing: 2 hours 14 minutes
Math Content: Focuses on algebra, problem-solving, and some advanced math
Reading and Writing: Combines reading comprehension and grammar
Scoring: Composite score out of 1600
Calculator: Only allowed for part of the math section

ACT (Expected 2025):

Sections: English, Math, Reading + Optional Science & Writing Sections
Timing: 2 hours 5 minutes + 40 minutes per Optional Section
Math Content: Includes more advanced math (trigonometry, logarithms)
Science Section: Tests data analysis and interpretation skills
Scoring: Composite score out of 36
Calculator: Allowed for all math questions

GRE & GMAT Prep

Program Overview

The GRE and GMAT Prep programs are built upon the same structure of the SAT & ACT Prep curriculum with the addition of the upper-level quantitative, language, and writing skills necessary to succeed in graduate school. While these exams test many of the same fundamental skills, they introduce advanced topics specifically geared toward graduate-level study. The GRE and GMAT Prep Programs are designed to cover these advanced topics thoroughly and ensure that students are fully prepared for test day.

Quantitative Reasoning: The GRE and GMAT focus on college-level math, requiring mastery in areas such as algebra, geometry, and data analysis, while also testing higher-level topics like probability, statistics, and critical reasoning.
Verbal and Analytical Writing: The GRE and GMAT place a greater emphasis on complex reading comprehension and critical thinking. Additionally, students are tested on analytical writing skills in argumentative essay tasks.

GRE vs GMAT

The GRE is accepted by a wide range of graduate programs, including fields such as math, engineering, business, and more. It is considered a flexible option, testing higher-level math and verbal skills. The GMAT, on the other hand, is typically preferred by business schools, particularly for MBA programs, as it focuses more on the quantitative, analytical, and verbal skills needed for business and management. Many business schools view GMAT scores as a strong indicator of a candidate’s potential for success in their programs.

Timing: 2 hours 15 minutes
Math Content: Emphasizes problem-solving, data sufficiency, and critical reasoning
Verbal Content: Focuses on critical reading, sentence correction, and logical reasoning
Data Insights: Covers data analysis and interpretation and decision-making
Scoring: Composite score out of 805
Business School Focus: GMAT is widely preferred by business schools
